A 63-year-old woman was fired from a Rock Hill CVS this week after stealing $267 from a purse left in a customer's shopping cart, according to a York County Sheriff's Office police report.
The store employee admitted to police that she stole the money on Jan. 4, the report states, after another customer turned in the purse.
She took the purse into the CVSs bathroom and stole various cards and cash from inside, according to the report. The employee then left the bag in the bathroom and went home.
Two days later, the employee mailed the cards to the purses owner using a false return address and kept the wallet and money, the report states.
She included a letter saying the cards were found at Food Lion.
The 70-year-old owner of the purse told the sheriffs office she did not want to press criminal charges against the CVS employee.
On Wednesday, a sheriffs deputy followed the employee to a bank where she withdrew $270 and returned the money, under police supervision, to the purses owner in the CVS parking lot.
