Police: Pedestrian dies after December wreck

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Saturday that a woman who was struck by a car last month while trying to cross Monroe Road has died from her injuries.

Police said 55-year-old Donna Poe Everette had been walking on the sidewalk in the 8400 block of Monroe Road around 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 11 when she tried to cross the street in the middle of the block. There was not a pedestrian crossing signal, crosswalk or traffic light in the road where Everette tried to cross, police said.

Police said Everette was hit by an oncoming car. She was taken to a local hospital and admitted to ICU. But on Friday, she succumbed to her injuries, police said.

On Saturday, police said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Kevin Allred of CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-336-8862.
