Mooresville schools chief in running for national honor
Mark Edwards, superintendent of the Mooresville Graded School District, is in the running for another educators award – and a big one, at that.Edwards is one of four finalists for the American Association of School Administrators 2013 National Superintendent of the Year award.Edwards, who was recently named North Carolina’s superintendent of the year, is up for the honor along with Wanda Cook-Robinson, superintendent of the Southfield (Mich.) Public Schools; C.J. Huff, superintendent of Joplin (Mo.) Public Schools; and Maryalice Russell, superintendent of the McMinnville (Ore.) School District.The winner will be announced on Feb. 21 at the AASA’s National Conference on Education in Los Angeles.Edwards and the other finalists were in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 8 to take part in a panel discussion on education held at the National Press Club. The finalists will also be interviewed by a selection panel composed of educators, business and government officials."AASA is honored to present these four outstanding superintendents," AASA executive director Daniel Domenech said in a prepared release announcing the finalists. "They represent the best in school system leadership today.
