A Gastonia woman is in jail after threatening to blow up the Gaston County police department on Sunday, police said.

Gaston County Police Officer S.K. Brown arrested Amanda Barnes, 37, of 722 Glenn St. around 7:30 a.m. Sunday and charged her with felony attempting malicious damage to government building by explosives, Dulce Carter, police records specialist with the department, said.

Her arrest warrant states that she “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did attempt to maliciously damage the building owned and occupied by the Gaston County Police Department by the use of an explosive and incendiary device and material,” said Sgt. Robert Mitchem with the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office.

Barnes is being held on $500,000 secured bond at the Gaston County jail. She also received 30 days contempt of court from the magistrate, Mitchem said.
