Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a man and a woman for allegedly using an online advertisement to arrange a sexual encounter at a local hotel and rob the victim afterward.

David Hopper, 19, and Alexis Fraley, 16, are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Police began investigating the pair after a 32-year-old Gastonia man told officers that he had contacted the woman at backpage.com, a website that allows people to advertise services. He said he arranged to meet the woman Sunday at the Relax Inn at 6246 North Tryon Street to pay her to have sex, police said.

After leaving the hotel room, the man told police he was approached by a male suspect in the stairwell, who robbed him at gunpoint before ordering the victim to remove his clothing.

Police were called to the scene around 5 a.m. Evidence gathered during the investigation led officers to identify Hopper and Fraley as suspects. They were located and arrested a short time later, police said.

A report shows the suspects stole the Gastonia man’s wallet, car keys and clothes. Detectives are investigating whether Hopper and Fraley may have had involvement in any other robbery cases, CMPD spokesman Rob Tufano said.
