A woman has been cited after authorities say they found a loaded .22 revolver in a carry-on bag at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
The gun was discovered by transportation security officers around 3:45 p.m. Monday. The weapon had four rounds of ammunition in it, according to a spokesman with the federal Transportation Security Administration.
Police were notified and took possession of the bag.
Meanwhile, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Jenifer Reid, 29, was issued a citation for carrying a concealed weapon.
Firearms can be transported in checked baggage. But anyone who brings a gun to a security checkpoint can also face civil penalties, according to the TSA. Learn more at: http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/firearms-and-ammunition
“We continue to remind passengers of the importance of looking through carry-on bags to ensure there are no prohibited items inside,” said TSA spokesman Jon Allen.
The revolver was the second firearm found so far this year at Charlotte Douglas. Also Monday an unloaded .22 gun was found at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
