Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a Locust man with aggravated assault and other charges after he allegedly punched a woman and used a folding razor blade to cut her.

James Kevin Byrd, 28, was arrested Saturday on several misdemeanors after police determined he had assaulted a 20-year-old Huntersville woman at a parking lot at 4101 Park Road in Charlotte. Police said Byrd punched the woman in the face, cut her with a folding razor blade and grabbed her by the hair to restrain her.

Byrd pulled the woman across the parking lot and used the blade, which was concealed in his pocket, to assault her, a police report shows. During the assault, he cursed at bystanders who were attempting to help the victim, the report shows.

Officers charged Byrd with aggravated assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct. He was booked in the Mecklenburg County jail on $14,000 secured bond.
