Jacob Crawford, Morganton

Spread the word: A Morganton boy pulled together chocolate-flavored hazelnut spread, rotisserie chicken and Monterey Jack cheese to become a semi-finalist in a national sandwich contest. Now he needs your votes to make the finals.

Jacob Crawford, 9, and his recipe for Magnificent Mole Chicken Torta are one of 10 in the running in Jif’s 11th annual Most Creative Sandwich Contest. If he gets enough votes by Feb. 1, he’ll get to attend final announcement in New York in March, where a grand prize winner will get a $25,000 college fund.

The finalists range in age from 6 to 11, and their recipes include things like Apple Fries Peanut Butter Surprise and the Banutter Cream Sandwich.

Jacob’s entry uses Jif Chocolate-Flavored Hazelnut Spread as the base for a mole sauce. You can view the final 10 recipes and vote on your favorites at www.jif.com.
