The ramp from southbound Interstate 85 to N.C. 73 in Concord is scheduled for overnight closure Thursday, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The closure is weather-permitting, however, and rain is in the forecast.
If the weather allows work to be done, the ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday. To reach N.C. 73 from I-85 southbound, motorists will have to exit at George Liles Parkway (Exit 54), turn left and cross the interstate, then get on northbound I-85 and exit at N.C. 73.
The ramp closure will allow crews to re-set a temporary barrier wall, so traffic can be moved to the ramp’s new configuration.
In addition, crews will close the left lanes of I-85 in both directions near Poplar Tent Road (Exit 52) from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, so bridge work can take place.
The work is part of a $125.2 million project to wide 6.8 miles of I-85 from four to eight lanes, from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard to north of N.C. 73. The project includes diverging diamond interchanges at Poplar Tent Road and N.C. 73.
