BESSEMER CITY -- No injuries were reported in an overnight fire that destroyed a vehicle and a camper near a house in northwest Gaston County, authorities say.
The fire was reported shortly before 2 a.m. on Capps Road, near Steel Road. That is north of Interstate 85, between Bessemer City and Crowders Mountain.
Firefighters found an SUV and a nearby camper trailer burning when they arrived. Crews were able to prevent the blaze from seriously damaging a nearby house, but the outer wall of the residence was scorched, officials say. Investigators are working to determine a cause.
