Hickory police investigate hit and run

Hickory police are investigating a pedestrian hit-and-run that left a woman in the hospital with critical injuries. A 2012 Kia on Tuesday evening struck a 56-year-old woman who was crossing 16th Street near the Rite-Aid at Springs Road Northeast and then fled the scene, police said.

The woman was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center then transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police said Wednesday the woman was still in critical condition.

During their investigation, officers discovered the Kia abandoned at a location they declined to disclose. They were processing the vehicle for evidence and searching for suspects Wednesday night.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run should call the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
