Lake Norman growth focus of summit

MOORESVILLE The Lake Norman Regional Transportation Commission will host a free summit this afternoon looking at how growth in the Lake Norman region has impacted transportation and land use.

The summit is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 N. Main St. Presenters will be Jeff Michael, director of the Urban Land Institute at UNC Charlotte, and Barry Moose, former Charlotte area engineer for the state Department of Transportation who’s now with SEPI Engineering.

In 2010, the commission had the Urban Land Institute conduct a comprehensive review of the region. The summit "is intended to enhance and extend that effort by involving local elected officials, local land use and transportation bodies and the public in identifying challenges and opportunities related to growth in the region,” said Chuck Travis, a Cornelius commissioner who’s also chairman of the transportation commission.
