Charlotte woman sentenced for sex trafficking

Richmond, Va. A Charlotte woman who helped bring a 13-year-old runaway girl into Virginia for prostitution was sentenced Thursday to nearly five years in prison.

Whitney Hayes pleaded guilty last September to conspiracy to transport a minor across state lines for prostitution. She was sentenced to four years and nine months in federal court in Richmond.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors say Hayes and another woman admitted to meeting the 13-year-old victim in Miami last February or March and convincing her to move to Charlotte where the pair had been working as prostitutes. The women then worked with their pimp to bring the girl to the Richmond area to work with them. The adults were later arrested at a Henrico County hotel.

Korey Jermaine Reynolds and Rachael Masingene also pleaded guilty. Reynolds is serving a 10-year, 10-month sentence. Masingene faces sentencing Feb. 13.
