Master gardener deadline
The deadline to apply for Gaston County master gardener volunteer training is Jan. 21. The six-week program, offered by the state Cooperative Extension, will run Feb. 5 through March 19 at the Citizens Resource Center, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, Dallas. All classes will be 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Course cost is $105.
Upon class completion, interns are required to give 40 hours of community service in Gaston County. When those 40 hours are completed, interns will be certified as Extension master gardener volunteers and expected to complete an additional 20 hours of community service each year. Soil Analysis
The N.C. Cooperative Extension-Cabarrus County Center is offering free soil sampling kits and instructions for conducting soil tests on lawn, gardens, fields or other areas.
