Winter weather knocks out power to thousands

Several neighborhoods in Charlotte are still without power after last night's winter weather.

The Dowd YMCA off of East Morehead Street is without power Friday morning, according to their Facebook page.

The Park Road Shopping Center in south Charlotte was just one of the many spots where power was out late Thursday night.

Wind knocked out power to 31,000 Duke Energy customers with 9,400 in Mecklenburg County Thursday. Late Thursday 6,300 Blue Ridge Electric customers were in the dark.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police patrolled the Park Road Shopping Center as grocery stores, restaurants and stores were all forced to close up shop because of the power outage.

As Friday morning, 1,380 are without power in Mecklenburg County, 50 are without Cabarrus County and 414 are without power in Iredell County.

Call your cooperative directly should you experience a disruption in power.
