Police: Matthews shooting not foul play

Police in Matthews say a shooting incident which left one person dead is not thought to be the result of foul play.

Corp. Lori Valdes, a spokeswoman for police, said the shooting has been classified as a “death investigation.”

The shooting was reported about 3:30 a.m. on West John Street at Ames Street, between the downtown district and Matthews Township Parkway. Medic was called to the scene and reported a fatality.
