Thursday’s heavy rain has caused crews to reschedule work on railroad crossings at three southeast Charlotte thoroughfares, two of which are main north-south routes.
Work was to have started Friday on North Sharon Amity Road, closing that road to through traffic between Monroe and Randolph roads. But the work won’t start until next week.
However, the scheduled reopening of Rama Road for the weekend has been canceled.
Here is a summary of the changes, according to the Charlotte Department of Transportation:
Rama Road: The road will remain closed at the tracks through Tuesday. That halts traffic between Monroe and Sardis roads. It had been scheduled for reopening this weekend.
Thermal Road: It also will remain closed at the tracks through Tuesday. The detour route off Monroe Road includes McAlpine Station Drive and McAlpine Park Drive.
Sharon Amity Road: It will be closed Wednesday through next Friday at the tracks. The project was to have started today. The closure will stop through traffic between Monroe and Randolph roads.
