YORK COUNTY York County libraries are offering help sessions for people to sign up for identity theft protection in the wake of a state security breach.
Due to a recent S.C. Department of Revenue breach of cyber security, many residents Social Security numbers, credit and debit card numbers and business tax filings were exposed.
The state recommends that anyone who has filed a South Carolina tax return since 1998 sign up for identity theft protection offered by the state through Experian.
Area residents who need assistance getting registered for the free identity protection program can attend drop-in sessions Jan. 28 to 31 at any York County Library. Extra computers and staff to assist will be available for online registrations. The schedule is as follows:
Residents should bring Social Security numbers for any family member that they will be registering.
