Kwanda Carpenter, 33, a Bessemer City High School employee, is facing two charges of sexual activity with a student by a school employee.

Gaston County police say two high school students attempted to blackmail a school employee who’s accused of engaging in a sexual act with the teen boys.

Kwanda Carpenter, 33, a Bessemer City High School employee, is facing two charges of sexual activity with a student by a school employee.

Officials say Carpenter, a bus driver for the school, is accused of engaging in a sexual act with two students, ages 17 and 16, in early October.

Police have charged the two male students with using Facebook to try to extort $60 from the woman to keep quiet about the sex.

Carpenter was booked into the Gaston County Jail on Wednesday, where she was placed on a $5,000 bond. A school system spokeswoman said Carpenter has been suspended while the district investigates the allegations. The Associated Press contributed.
