YORK - A York man with convictions dating back to 1998 that prevent him from having a weapon was arrested Friday by deputies on drug and weapons charges, according to jail records.
David Junior Hayes, 33, was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of drugs with intent to distribute, and possession of marijuana, jail records showed Saturday. Hayes criminal record according to State Law Enforcement Division records includes conviction for assault, domestic violence, and escape from prison.
Hayes was charged with attempted murder in March in connection to a drive-by shooting on California Street in York, after which another man, Deelgin Robbins, was arrested by York police following a city-wide chase. Robbins told police after his arrest Hayes was an assailant against Robbins. But prosecutors said in court in December when Robbins pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years for the shooting incident that Hayes had denied any involvement and the only evidence against Hayes was what Robbins claimed happened.
Robbins fled through the city in March before being tackled by the York police chief after a manhunt.
The York County Clerk of Court public index shows the attempted murder charge against Hayes was dismissed in December. Jail records Saturday showed Hayes was being held on $10,620 bond.
