    Rowan authorities say five people, including two children, were killed when an SUV struck a tree and burst into flames Friday evening in Spencer. Four other people were injured.

An 8-year-old girl injured in a Rowan County car crash Friday night has died, bringing the number of adults and children killed to six.

Taliah Williams died Saturday night at Brenner Children’s Hospital after being taken off life support, Spencer police said. Family members told the Observer she had been declared brain-dead.

The single-vehicle wreck happened Friday night, when an SUV with nine people in it headed to a delayed New Year’s Eve party crashed into a tree in Spencer. Killed were Vincent McNeal, 45, Monique Dunlap, 28, Sean Javan Jacobs, 25, Da’Ja Cathcart, 10, and Karizma Nicole Sexton, 4.

Three other children were also hurt, with injuries ranging from broken bones to cuts and bruises.
