    Blood donors and American Red Cross collection specialists fill one of four donation pods in Halton Arena at UNC-Charlotte Tuesday January 22, 2013. UNCC and other North Carolina colleges and universities are competing with one another to see which institution can collect the most pints of blood in conjunction with the American Red Cross. Last January UNC-Charlotte collected 871 pints which beat UNC-Chapel Hill's total of 782 collected in June of 2012. "This is our (the American Red Cross) largest drive in Charlotte," says Kara Lusk Dudley, communications program manager for the Red Cross. Lusk Dudley adds that it's only the 4th year that UNCC has done a blood drive and that they hope to reach 1,000 pints Tuesday January 22, 2013.
