Woman struck in Hickory hit-and-run has died

A pedestrian struck in a Hickory hit and run last week died Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hickory police are still searching for suspects in the case.

The hit and run happened Jan. 15 when A 2012 Kia struck a 56-year-old woman who was crossing 16th Street near the Rite-Aid at Springs Road Northeast and then fled the scene, police said.

The woman was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center then transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police said Tuesday the woman died at CMC but her name was not immediately available.

During their investigation, officers discovered the Kia abandoned at a location they declined to disclose.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run should call the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551
