Two Burke County elementary schools have received life-saving equipment as a donation from the Firehouse Subs restaurant chain.
Officials from Firehouse Subs presented representatives from Valdese Elementary and Salem Elementary in Morganton on Wednesday with automated external defibrillators. Each defibrillator is worth $2,000, and school system officials say budget contraints had prevented the schools from purchasing the equipment.
The defibrillators can be used to treat students or staff who might go into cardiac arrest.
