Flight attendants at US Airways will vote on a new contract, their union said Thursday, after rejecting the airline’s previous two contract offers. Union leaders also reiterated their support for a merger with American Airlines.
The flight attendants haven’t had a unified contract since America West and US Airways merged in 2005. Both groups still work under different rules and pay rates.
"This agreement provides US Airways Flight Attendants with a strong position for our future. We secured immediate improvements as well as a process for additional gains through discussions related to the pending merger. Doug Parker’s plan for a US Airways/American merger provides the best opportunities for US Airways Flight Attendants - and we are now poised to make the most out of those opportunities,” said the Association of Flight Attendants US Airways leaders in a joint statement.
The union narrowly rejected US Airways’ most recent contract offer last year. The union’s leadership unanimously endorsed Thursday’s contract offer, and said a voting schedule would be set soon.
