Davidson

Recycling: The town recently placed 11 duo recycling/trash bins downtown. Items that can be recycled include all plastic containers except No. 6 styrofoam/clamshells; rigid plastics, including toys; empty aerosol cans; milk cartons and juice boxes; glass bottles and jars; cardboard, cut and flattened into small sizes; and paper, except shredded paper.


Mooresville

Free Valentine’s dinner: The Emeritus at Churchill senior living community will provide a free Valentine’s dinner with gifts and friends at the home of a Lake Norman area senior who would otherwise be home alone on Valentine’s Day. Troutman

5K race: Pre-registration is now open for the inaugural Troutman Parks and Sprint into Spring 5k Race. The event will take place on Saturday, March 2. Those who register before Feb.16 will receive a free T-shirt. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are also available. Statesville

Softball program: The Statesville Recreation and Parks Department is sponsoring the 2013 Middle School Girls’ Softball Program for Iredell County residents.

All those who register will be placed on a team in accordance with the Iredell/Statesville School System boundaries. Registration deadline is Feb. 8. For more information: 704-878-3429.


Huntersville

Women’s Conference: The first Lake Norman Women’s Conference, Feb. 7, will feature a keynote speech by veteran Charlotte broadcast journalist Stacey Simms, a luncheon, fashion show, panel discussion, team-building and a wine reception. The conference, organized by the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce Diversity Council, will be held at the Hendrick Luxury Auto Mall in Huntersville, in the Mercedes Benz store at 10720 Statesville Road. Pancake breakfast: The Rotary Club of North Mecklenburg will hold its annual charity Pancake Breakfast, Silent Auction and Lake Norman Talent Show from 7:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 2 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius. West Shore
