SuperBowl Sunday specials abound, eat in or take

Also, 2 new restaurants, salsa naming contest

    On Super Sunday, Feb.3, FS Food Group’s restaurants Paco’s Tacos, Midwood Smokehouse and Bad Daddy’s are running $1,2,3 Apps and Drafts Superbowl specials for the game. Midwood Smokehouse will feature $1 BBQ sliders, $2 queso and $3 nachos.

OGGI

A new Italian spot has opened at the Shoppes at Ardrey Kell in Ballantyne. OGGI is family owned and makes their pastas and desserts from scratch daily. They serve a number of salads such as Insalata Gabriella with chopped romaine, red onions, olives and fresh mozzarella and Insalata Capresse with beefsteak tomatoes, basil, basil and fresh buffalo mozzarella. Pastas are plentiful: handmade lasagna, fettuccini Carbonara and penne vodka with chicken are all on the menu. A number of fish, veal and chicken entrees are offered, as well as a healthy choice menu with gluten free options. Take out is available at OGGI; they are open for dinner and lunch Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday.

Nan and Byron’s

Coming soon to the former Vinnie’s Grill and Raw Bar spot in the historic South End, Nan and Byron’s will be a traditional American eatery. MAP Management team Mills Howell, Alejandro Torio, and Patrick Whalen, along with partner Executive Chef Jamie Lynch will head up the project. The MAP team also opened 5 Church uptown, and plan to have Nan and Byron’s open summer 2013.

Salsarita’s

A new, hot salsa is on Charlotte-based Salsarita’s menu this year and guests have a chance to name it and win a trip to Cancun. The salsa is made with a roasted tomatillo base with four peppers: chiles de arbol, chipotles, habaneros and serranos. Salsarita’s chairman, Phil Friedman says, “Salsa is America’s favorite condiment. Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar will feature $1 sliders, $2 chips and dips and $3 nachos. Midwood Smokehouse will feature $1 BBQ sliders, $2 queso and $3 nachos. Plate Perfect Catering, the catering division of the above restaurants, is running their own Superbowl promo. Visit their Facebook page to enter a contest to win a catered Superbowl party for 10 people. The catered meal includes a slider and a wing platter, three pounds of chicken tenders, a gallon of chili topped with cheddar and scallions with sour cream on the side, a salad, banana pudding and sweet tea.

Maverick Rock Taco

Maverick has just begun serving a new, late night menu on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 p.m. – 2 a.m. Items on the menu: chips and dips, chili- lime-tequila wings, burritos, jalapeno mahi tacos, chicken fajita chimichangas and more.

A Steak Your Claim menu with three courses for $49.95 is offered through March 31. Starter choices include a classic Caesar, a roasted beet and goat cheese salad or lobster bisque.
