Stabbing, fire under investigation in west Mecklenburg

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a woman who was pulled from a burning home early Friday had been stabbed.

Emergency crews were called to the 10300 block of Walkers Ferry Road around 3:30 a.m. Friday where they found a residence on fire. Firefighters searching the home found a woman inside of the resident, who had been stabbed.

The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main for treatment. Paramedics initially described her injuries as life-threatening.

Authorities say they don’t believe the assault was a random act of violence and were working Friday to identify a suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
