ROCK HILL The owner of a Rock Hill auto repair shop was arrested on Friday on a charge of operating his business without a retail license, according to booking officials at the Moss Justice Detention Center.
Robert Shields, 63, of Rock Hill is the owner of Bavarian Auto Service on Dunlap Roddey Road, according to the S.C. Department of Revenue.
He was arrested, according to a state Department of Revenue release, on a "tax charge."
The Bavarian Auto Service's retail license was first revoked in May 2010. Almost one year later, Shields obtained a second retail license for a company registered as B.A.S., according to the state Department of Revenue.
After an investigation, the department determined that B.A.S. and Bavarian Auto Service were "one in the same," according to the state Department of Revenue.
The Better Business Bureau's website lists Bavarian Auto Service as an unaccredited business.
The Herald was unable to reach the business and Shields on Friday and Saturday. Three numbers listed in the phone book for Shields or his auto service business are not working numbers.
Shields was released from the York County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond on Saturday.
The state Department of Revenue said the penalty for the tax charge is up to 30 days in jail or a $200 fine.
