ROCK HILL Calls about an overdose resulted in the arrests of two Charlotte parents who allegedly swapped drugs and prepared to use heroin at a Rock Hill home while their 1-year-old child was with them in the house last week.

Agents with the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit arrested Michael Quincy Damon, 42, and Rebecca Ann McAlister, 36, on Wednesday after finding them at a Long Street home with heroin, needles and pills, according to a York County Sheriff's report.

Another man, 42-year-old Edward Pope Ball Jr., was arrested the next day, charged with possession of heroin and possession of Xanax. Police charged McAlister with possession of heroin, possession of Xanax and unlawful neglect of a child. Damon was charged with two counts of distributing Xanax, two counts of distributing Xanax in proximity to a park, possession of heroin and unlawful neglect of a child, according to a York County Sheriff's report.

Rock Hill Police went to Ball's Long Street home, which is just 1/2 a mile from Glencairn Garden, after responding to calls about an overdose, said Jim Lubben, drug unit commander for Rock Hill. Drug agents "adopted" the case and learned that Damon, who has a prior drug conviction, gave at least four pills of Xanax to McAlister and two pills to Ball, according to a York County Sheriff's report.

Along with needles and pills, police found that Damon and McAlister both had 0.1 grams of heroin, the report states, while their 1-year-old son was in their custody. The boy also didn't have proper clothing on for this time of year, Lubben said. According to the report, he was "dressed without regard for the extreme cold."

McAlister and Damon were arrested, while Ball, who had overdosed, was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, where he was treated and released, hospital officials said. He was then taken into police custody.

Both McAlister and Damon were still held at the York County Detention Center Sunday. McAlister was held on a $7,000 bond and Damon on a $25,500 bond. Ball is held on a $10,000 bond.
