Collins, Liner, Corey, Simonini win Icicle Series races

John Collins and Neil Liner went 2-for-2, while Don Corey and Alan Simonini split their division races in the opening weekend of the Outrigger Yacht Club’s 2013 Icicle Series sailboat races, held Jan. 19 on Lake Norman.

Collins won both races in the Spinnaker B division in his J-24, beating John Guthrie’s Ranger 28 “Lone Ranger” both times.

Liner did the same in the nonspinnaker division in his Catalina 27 “Air Transit,” beating Richard Blocker’s Cataline 30 in the first race and Richard Ferrar’s Pearson 28 in the second race.

Corey, in his U-20 “Fore,” and Simonini, in his J-80 “Bone Chillin’,” split the two races in the Spinnaker A division. Simonini won the opening race with Corey coming in second; Corey returned the favor in the second race, with Simonini the runner-up.

The next two races in the OYC’s Icicle Series will be held Feb. 2.
