A Gastonia man hit another man with his car on Saturday, then reversed and struck the victim again, police say.

Robert Claude Robinson, 53, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was released from Gaston County jail after posting a $2,000 bond.

It was unclear how badly the victim was injured, but he was able to tell police what happened according to the report.

“The victim advised the offender struck him with a vehicle on purpose then backed up and struck the victim again with the vehicle before fleeing the scene,” according to the police report.

Police arrested Robinson Saturday night on East Franklin Boulevard in Gastonia. NBC Charlotte contributed.
