Ninth annual “Souper Bowl”

The Davidson Housing Coalition will hold its annual Souper Bowl fundraiser from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in the Lilly Family Gallery in the Chambers Building on the Davidson College campus. Soups from eight area restaurants will be served, and patrons can also choose a dessert from Bird & Bear Cookie Co. or Davidson Chocolate Company.

Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students 12 and older and $5 for children under 12; prices will increase at the door. Proceeds benefit Hands Around Mecklenburg/Mooresville Making Emergency Repairs Safely (HAMMERS). To purchase: eddison@davidsonhousing.org; 704-892-4486.

Scouting for Food drive

Mecklenburg County Boy Scouts will be going door to door to collect canned goods for Loaves & Fishes on Feb. 2. The 2012 Scouting for Food drive collected 255,000 pounds of food, which helped Loaves & Fishes feed 126,803 people in Mecklenburg County. Priority needs include canned meat, canned pastas, cereal, canned fruit and 100-percent fruit juice. Food collection barrels can be found at all Mecklenburg County Harris Teeter stores. Donations can also be dropped off 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 2 and 12:30-2:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at a number of locations around Charlotte. Donation locations and details: www.loavesandfishes.org.

Fifth annual Chocolate Festival

This free event will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 2370 W. Main St., Rock Hill. Featured items will include a chocolate bake sale, PW’s Gourmet Ice Cream’s Death by Chocolate sundae, chocolate doughnuts, chocolate chili and more. Bagel recall

A variety of Sara Lee, Weight Watchers and Publix brand bagels are being recalled after BBU Inc. – the parent of Bimbo Bakeries companies – discovered the possible presence of metal fragments from a faulty manufacturing part. Fresh bagels with sell-by dates of Jan 18 to and including Jan. 27 on the bag closure are being recalled in the following varieties:

• Sara Lee Deluxe Bagels (20-ounce): honey wheat, plain, blueberry, cinnamon raisin

• Publix premium (20-ounce): original, multi-grain, cinnamon raisin swirl

• Weight Watchers (15-ounce): original bagels

No other products are affected. Consumers can return the product for a full refund to the original place of purchase. Questions: 1-800-984-0989.

“Drink N’ Draw”

The Myers Park Mellow Mushroom is offering this chance to sketch live models dressed as comic book characters 9-11 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month, 2820 Selwyn Ave, Suite 100.
