Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a man in connection with the slaying of 36-year-old Troy Kidwell, found strangled to death in 2005 in a northeast Charlotte hotel.

The CMPD Cold Case Homicide Unit arrested Darryl McPhaul, 46, Tuesday morning after re-examining DNA evidence they say links McPhaul to the crime.

A manager at the Continental Inn on Sugar Creek Road near Interstate 85 had contacted police after finding Kidwell unconscious in his room on March 26, 2005. Authorities pronounced Kidwell dead at the scene.

McPhaul is in custody at the Mecklenburg County jail.
