A 43-year-old man was arrested after a brief police standoff in Charlotte’s University City area, authorities say.
Wilburt Lane was charged with armed robbery, with police saying he robbed a woman outside a store. That woman led police to the suspect, investigators say.
It began about 7:15 p.m., when a woman called 911 and said she had been robbed of her purse by a man armed with a gun. The woman said she was in the parking lot of the Ulta store, in the 8700 block of J.W. Clay Boulevard, when the robbery took place.
The woman said she followed the man in her car and was able to give 911 dispatchers the license tag number of the man’s vehicle.
Police used that tag number to find an address, and officers responded to an apartment building in the 9500 block of Grove Crest Lane. Police said the man barricaded himself inside an apartment, so officers called in a SWAT team.
After talking to negotiators, police say, the man surrendered.
Police say additional charges may be pending in the case.
