Man charged in Union break-ins

A Marshville man was arrested earlier this week after authorities say he stole electronics, jewelry and other items from churches and residences in Union County.

Johnny Ray Deese, Jr., 26, faces multiple counts of larceny and breaking and entering in connection with the crimes, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office. He was put in jail under a $10,000 bond but has since bonded out.

The break-ins happened at two churches and five residences in Union County between September and December, according to the sheriff’s office.

For example, authorities say Deese broke into the Fairfield Baptist Church and Piney Grove Baptist Church, which are just outside of the Marshville town limits, on Dec. 10.

The sheriff’s office said detectives have been able to recover some of the stolen property, and that their investigation remains active.

Deese is expected to appear in court on March 5.
