Rock Hill A Rock Hill man was airlifted to a Charlotte hospital after police say another man knocked on his door and shot him in the chest before taking off with cash late Tuesday.
Police were called to a home in the 900 block of Eastwood Drive around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a gunshot wound victim, said Rock Hill police Lt. Brad Redfearn.
Officers found Darryl Hemphill, 24, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
A woman said she was in her apartment with Hemphill and her two children when two men in ski masks came in, according to a Rock Hill police report. They confronted Hemphill and then shot him.
Hemphill managed to run from the house toward Princeton Road, where someone called EMS. Meanwhile, the gunman managed to take at least $300 from the house, even while the victim’s girlfriend was still inside, Redfearn said.
The girlfriend and children were not injured, he said.
Hemphill was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center. His current condition is unknown, but Redfearn said the victim was alert and talking to police when he was flown out.
A police dog found about $60 near the crime scene, the report states.
The intruders were not caught.
