The ramp from southbound Johnston Road to the outer loop of Interstate 485 will be closed late Thursday night and early Friday, so crews can begin preparations for the I-485 widening project.
This will affect motorists headed to I-485 from the Pineville-Matthews Road area, planning to take the interstate highway toward Rea and Providence roads.
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday.
Crews will be boring holes along the edge of the ramp, to gather information for the flyover bridge to be built from northbound Johnston Road to the I-485 inner loop. That is part of the $83.3 million project to widen 9.2 miles of I-485 from I-77 to Rea Road.
During tonight’s closure, motorists will take Johnston Road past I-485 to John J. Delaney Drive, where they will make a U-turn and take northbound Johnston Road to the I-485 outer loop ramp.
