Free planting bulbs
Keep Charlotte Beautiful will offer free daffodil and tulip bulbs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or while supplies last) Feb. 2 at the Northwest Service Area Office, 2730 Rozzelles Ferry Road. Bulbs will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of two bags per person. Bulbs are available for communities, schools and organizations for planting in front yards and public areas.

Grand opening
Kirklands will hold grand opening events at its Matthews store 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ross Plaza Shopping Center, 1843 Matthews Township Parkway, Unit 400, Matthews.
Interior designer Carol Smith, of Creative Home Stagers, will offer free design consultations from 1 to 4 p.m. both days. Kirklands will give away two $50 gift cards and serve refreshments. The specialty home décor and gift store has developed a spin to win app for smartphones that allows customers to receive in-store discounts at checkout. www.kirklands.com

ReStyle Design Challenge
Our Towns Habitat Restore will host the third annual Restore ReStyle Design Challenge on May 17. Participants will have two weeks to shop from the Cornelius and Mooresville ReStores and an additional two days to decorate a 10-by-10-foot room using only the items from ReStores. The public will view and vote on the rooms May 17. Applications are available at ourtownsrestore.org.
