Albemarle police have arrested a woman who they said is one of several suspects in a string of counterfeit cases that have happened in the city in recent months.

New London resident Heather Rae Poplin, 31, was arrested and charged with possession of more than five counterfeit instruments Wednesday.

Police have been investigating a string of counterfeit cases in the city over the past several months. The investigation led to Poplin’s arrest and police expect to charge more people in future for distributing counterfeit bills in Albemarle and Stanly counties.

Poplin’s court date is set for Feb. 11.
