Charlotte director Mark Freiburger made the Super Bowl cut with his Doritos commercial, "Fashionista Daddy."
Freiburger, who attended Providence High School and has shot two feature films in North Carolina, entered the annual Crash the Super Bowl advertising competition with a spot that features a father dressing up for a tea party with his daughter. There were five finalists and fans voted mostly via Facebook for their favorites.
Two finalists from five were selected to air during Super Bowl XLVII as the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers faced off. One was voted in by America and the other was chosen by Doritos.
The first ad that aired, during the first quarter, was Freiburger's stiffest competition: "Goat 4 Sale," featuring a Doritos-addicted goat. "Fashionista Daddy" aired in the second quarter.
In the final phase of the competition, fans could vote as part of USA Today's Ad Meter. If either ad makes No. 1 on the meter, the director will win $1 million and a job working for director Michael Bay on "Transformers 4" this summer. The prize for second place is $600,000, and third place is $400,000.
Freiburger's ad finished in fourth place in USA Today's ad meter, according to a post on Fashionista Daddy's Facebook page.
Freiburger was at the game in New Orleans and could not be reached immediately for comment.
