ROCK HILL A Rock Hill man whom police say was looking for a place to smoke pot admitted on Monday that he was hiding a machete he stole from Walmart in his pants.

Police arrested and charged Bryan Matthew Ferguson, 18, with possession of marijuana, according to a Rock Hill Police report. By Tuesday morning, he was still held at the Rock Hill jail on a $570 bond.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, officers parked at Moes Southwest Grill at Manchester Village watched Ferguson walk in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods, peeking around a pillar as if trying to see if he was being watched, according to a Rock Hill Police report. He walked in front of Ross Dress for Less when an officer approached him.

Ferguson said he was unable to sleep and wanted to go for a walk. Police frisked Ferguson, who said he had a machete hidden inside his right pants leg, the report states. Police found the two-foot long weapon, along with three bags of marijuana and a marijuana smoking device in his left rear pocket.

Ferguson said he stole the machete from Walmart nearly an hour before he scoped out Manchester to find a place to smoke pot, the report states. Walmart declined to press charges since the machete had been recovered.
