CONCORD -- The current second-in-command with Cabarrus County EMS will move into the top spot later this month, Cabarrus County officials say.
David “Alan” Thompson will be the EMS director Feb. 22, when David Hampton retires after 31 years with the county. Thompson joined the county’s emergency medical service agency in 1990 as a paramedic.
Thompson has served as shift supervisor, system education coordinator and quality management officer in Cabarrus County. Prior to coming to Cabarrus, he served with the N.C. Army National Guard and worked with EMS agencies in Rowan and Mecklenburg counties.
Thompson has earned more than 20 emergency-related certifications and has been a presenter at several regional and state training events.
