Bobcats Observations

By Rick Bonnell

• As expected, Charlotte Bobcats rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist missed his second straight game with a concussion, but MKG is on the mend. Coach Mike Dunlap had a long talk with him Wednesday and said he’s “substantially better” both in how his head and neck feel.

Kidd-Gilchrist can’t begin the NBA’s post-concussion testing until he’s symptom-free.

• Cavaliers star and former Duke point guard Kyrie Irving was a high school teammate of Kidd-Gilchrist in New Jersey. So Irving made a point of checking in on his buddy after learning of the concussion he suffered in Houston.

“I was a little worried at first, but he told me he was OK,” Irving said pre-game. “Hopefully he’s back in the next few days.”

• Irving and Kemba Walker both have great speed as point guards, but in very different ways. When Walker has it going, his sudden stops-and-starts create space to shoot. Irving’s gift is changing direction without slowing down. He’s as fluid a dribbler as I can remember.
