Belk exec named to head 7th Street Public Market

The 7th Street Public Market’s new executive director has more than 40 years in retail management working for another Charlotte retailer, although he sold clothes, not food.

Michael Restaino, formerly Charlotte-based Belk’s vice president for its private brand, starts his new job at the market next week.

The uptown market, which opened in December 2011, sells a mix of locally grown and locally made food. It is sponsored by Carolinas Medical Center and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.

“His impressive track record speaks volumes about his careful approach and passionate leadership, which are assets that will be important for the 7th Street Public Market as it continues to celebrate the food culture of the Piedmont and Charlotte,” said Michael Smith, president of Charlotte Center City Partners, in a statement.
