Woman hurt in I-485 wreck

A woman was injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 485 in western Mecklenburg County, authorities say.

The wreck was reported shortly before 10:45 a.m. in the outer loop of I-485, near the Interstate 85 interchange. Police say it appears as if the woman’s car broke down in the middle travel lane. A short time later, a tractor-trailer plowed into the stalled car.

The wreck blocked two lanes of I-485 for about an hour. The woman was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

It was the second serious wreck on I-485 in two days. Five people were hurt Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision on the inner loop near Providence Road.
