CLOVER A 12-year-old Clover Middle School student with “loose fitting pants” admitted to deputies that he brought a knife to school Monday after it fell from his pockets and struck a classroom file cabinet.

Deputies charged the boy with possession of a weapon on school property and released him into his parents' custody, according to a York County Sheriff’s report.

A teacher told a school administrator that the boy had the pocketknife after it fell from his “loose fitting pants pocket” when he got up to leave for the day, the report states. The knife hit a metal cabinet, causing a loud noise that attracted the attention of other students.

The student didn’t stop to pick up the weapon, but continued walking out of the classroom, the report states.

Deputies questioned the boy, who admitted the knife was his, the report states. He said he found the knife along the road and brought it to school without telling school administrators.

The boy was “disciplined according to school policy,” the report states, and petitioned to family court.
