Nenneh, 35, and DeQuintin, 32, met at a local gym on South Boulevard on Jan. 13, 2005. Nenneh remembers the date because she knew that day that DeQuintin was the man she was meant to be with. The couple married July 8, 2006 and lives in Charlotte. Nenneh tells their story.

Serious fitness: I was getting a good workout in at the same time some of the fire fighters from Station 12 up the street were also in the gym. One in particular, DeQuintin, was very cute and was trying to hold a conversation with me. I thought he might be flirting a little– and while I thought he was nice – I was really into my workout and didn’t give him much time.

Finishing up: I was headed back to the locker room when I saw DeQuintin and the fire crew getting ready to leave. He smiled and waved and I did the same in return. I used to be a personal trainer there and stopped to talk to some former co-workers. Before I knew it, there was a page over the loud speaker that said I had a call on line one. I thought, “I don’t work here anymore and I no longer have clients, who could it be?”

Polite request: When I picked up the line, it was DeQuintin. He wanted to know if I was seeing anybody, as he didn’t want to be disrespectful and ask when he was in the gym earlier. When I told him I was single, he said he’d like to take me to dinner one night and gave me three telephone numbers to reach him at.

You just know: After that first conversation, I knew DeQuintin was “The One.” That same day I sent a text to my good friend, “I think I just met my future husband.” Hilary Trenda
