Parents charged in 2-year-old’s death

Mooresville police on Wednesday arrested the parents of a 2-year-old who was found dead nearly a year ago in their home on Sharpe Street.

Police charged Nicholas Burnette Clark, 22, and Sheila Amanda Hendley, 21, with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of felony child abuse.

Police arrested the couple in Georgetown County, S.C., where they now live. The couple are being held in the Georgetown County Detention Center pending extradition to North Carolina, WIS-TV of Columbia, S.C., reported.

Investigators with the S.C. Law Enforcement Division and Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrests, the Mooresville Police Department said in a statement.

On March 15, 2012, police responded to 519 Sharpe Street to assist EMS on a call. While at the home, police said, they began investigating the circumstances of the child’s death.

Mooresville police Major Bryan Anderson said the department is releasing no other information, including the cause of death and why it took so long for police to arrest the couple.
