Four seasons gardening

“Gardening for Four Seasons of Interest” will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Wing Haven Gardens, 248 Ridgewood Ave. Terri Long of Terri Long Landscape Design will show landscape improvements and plants that provide year-round interest. $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers. Feb. 27

Garden chickens

This lunch-and-learn session will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 27 at Gaston County Citizen’s Resource Center, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, Dallas. The class will offer how-to instructions for raising a backyard flock. The fee is $10 for the class and lunch. (Tell us if you have a special dietary request.) Register by Feb. 22 at 704-922-2112.

March 16

Shiitake mushroom workshop

Cabarrus Cooperative Extension Agent David Goforth will host a free, beginners’ class on growing shiitake mushrooms, 1 p.m. at the incubator farm, 3445 Atando Road. Participants should bring three logs that were cut at least three weeks prior. Oak is suitable for inoculation, and sweetgum is acceptable. The logs should be 3 to 5 feet long.
